Athenaeum

Historic, beautiful, intimate and inviting, the Athenaeum is home to the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Association and our dedicated mission of promoting excellence in all forms of art while preserving this historic landmark. The NVFAA strives to establish premier arts programs that enrich the cultural life of Northern Virginia and beyond. Originally constructed as the Bank of the Old Dominion (1851-52), with a rich history within a historic seaport town, the Athenaeum is one of Alexandria's two surviving examples of Greek revival neoclassical architecture open to the public. Today, the Athenaeum is home to regional contemporary art exhibitions and concert performances featuring regional singer/songwriters as well as host to classes in ballet conducted by the Washington School of Ballet, yoga classes and other educational opportunities. In addition, the Athenaeum is a dramatic and memorable site for wedding ceremonies, receptions, and seminars. Historic landmark. Art gallery. Performance Space. We welcome all that are interested in the arts and historic preservation to the Athenaeum.
