Rachmaninoff's "Piano Concerto No. 3" is respected -- and even feared -- by pianists, and considered one of the most technically difficult concertos ever written. Never one to back away from a challenge, piano soloist Garrick Ohlsson will take on this monster of a concerto. Ohlsson possesses an unusually vast repertoire that ranges over some eighty concertos. He is also known for his exceptional keyboard stretch (a 13th in the left hand and a 12th in the right). Performance of Mahler's "Symphony No. 1" honors the Austrian composer on two great anniversaries: 2010 would mark his 150th birthday, and 2011 the 100th anniversary of his death.
