Giuseppe Verdi created "Requiem" in May 1873 as a memorial to the Italian writer and humanist Alessandro Manzoni. It has been a mainstay of choral societies since the 1930s. With huge brass horns and hundreds of voices raised, it is considered some of the loudest unamplified music ever written. Appearing with the vocalists will be several past Metropolitan Opera competition winners. Performing with the symphony are: the Alexandria Choral Society, Metropolitan Chorus and the Heritage Signature Chorale; soprano Jan Cornelius, tenor Scott Six, mezzo Stacey Rishoi, and bass-baritone Gus Andreassen.
