Students learn to transform sheet copper, silver, or gold into hollow forms; a cone, cube, or sphere. Participants are also introduced to the art of repousse--an ancient techniques of working metal from both sides to create a bas relief sculptural surface. Emphasis is on using various types of hammers, steel forms, chasing and repousse tools, and soldering methods as students explore metalsmithing techniques that change metal into detailed jewelry containers, or small sculptures.
A $15 lab fee is payable to the instructor at the first class.
Class will meet on August 8, 15, 22, 29, and September 12. Class will not meet on Labor Day Weekend.
